Doug Aitken: Psychic Debris Field
Psychic Debris Field brought together a poly-media body of new work by Doug Aitken at Regen Projects, Los Angeles, exploring the tension between deep ecological history and contemporary human habitation. The exhibition featured large-scale sculptures built from urban debris — including microplastics, reclaimed computer packing foam, Cor-ten steel, and compressed organic matter — alongside light and sound installations, botanic artworks, and fabric works. Anchoring the show were monumental bison sculptures in states of growth and decay, a immersive sound and light installation evoking a phantom North American landscape, and P-22, a larger-than-life mountain lion cast entirely from foraged urban materials. The exhibition extended themes from Aitken's concurrent multimedia project Lightscape, realized in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale.
