Project type
Museum / Gallery Show
Date
May 2023 – September 2023
Location
Museum of Applied Arts. Vienna, Austria
The Doghouse was an installation by architecture duo SPAN (Matias del Campo and Sandra Manninger), presented as part of the group exhibition /Imagine: A Journey into the New Virtual at the MAK in Vienna. The work explored the intersection of AI and architectural form, translating 2D images generated by diffusion models — including MidJourney and DALL-E 2 — into a large-scale CNC-milled 3D model of a house, inhabited by interactive Sony AIBO robots. Accompanying the sculpture was Mosaik, a monumental backlit print composed of over 20,000 AI-generated images forming a diffusion gradient. Together, the two works examined questions of authorship, signification, and the evolving role of machine intelligence in architectural design and production.
